NEW VIDEO: Mike Stud “Young King”
By LG |

While some may get tired of the usual “performance video” from Mike Stud, I’ve realized that he’s found his niche in visuals as he has done with his music. There is nothing like an artist that stays true to what makes them great. Here, Stud mixes visuals from a couple of his shows on tour.

NEW VIDEO: DeLaZoo “Bound 2.5″
By LG |

DeLaZoo continues to murder everything he touches. This cover/remix of Kanye’s “Bound 2.0″ is no exception. He showcases his lyrical wit, and his singing with confidence. The “chorus” also adds a much needed element in this song. We need this guy signed yesterday.

NEW MUSIC: R-Stonze “So Into You”
By LG |

You really can’t be mad at R-Stonze’s attempt to resurrect Tamia’s classic. However, the sound just doesn’t translate to NOW. It’s still a little dated – though I’m sure this sound will be back in a couple of years.

NEW VIDEO: State of Mynd “Nothing’s What It Seems”
By LG |

Love the editing and visual style of State of Mynd’s new track. While I think the video suffers from some iffy cinematography, it gets the job done most of the time. The song carries the video well, and doesn’t leave you wanting much more. Is that a bad thing though?

NEW MUSIC: Chox-Mak ft. DJ YRS Jerzy “Final Destination”
By LG |

Chox-Mak & DJ YRS Jerzy go religious with their latest. I love this track because it isn’t as “in your face” as most Christian rap, but it pushes the message regardless. It has a great chorus, and dope verses by both Emcee’s. Bravo.

ALBUM REVIEW: Matt Easton “Grey Area”
By LG |

00 - Matt_Easton_Grey_Area-front-large

Matt Easton has always been a consistent, albeit quiet contender in the unsigned artist pool. Polished, commercial, and lyrical, he has the complete package but has just never quite reached the heights that his talents promise. Until now. Grey Area is a triumph. It is off the beaten path, but it ultimately is what hip-hop is at it’s core: A message, wrapped in beat and rhyme for the masses to gain (a) knowledge from. The rock theme that Easton decided to go with scores this album a lot of points, but ultimately it’s his bars that bring these guitars and heavy drums to life.

NEW VIDEO: Kyle Bent “Live Forever”
By LG |

Kyle Bent more than delivers on his new single “Live Forever”. The video is very high energy and almost gives you a early 2000′s Black action movie a la’ Romeo Must Die, Cradle To The Grave, etc. Great job with this one.

NEW VIDEO: Haze Crooklyn “Feel Me”
By LG |

I like the flow from Haze Crooklyn. The video is decent. Good black and white visuals, smooth editing, and Crooklyn’s rhymes go well together.

NEW VIDEO: Boss Smooth “In This Bitch”
By LG |

Yet another flashlight-in-a-dark-room video by Boss Smooth. Can’t really hate on the man, since there is certainly a market for this.

NEW MUSIC: Chox-Mak “Bound”
By LG |

What a great flip by Chox-Mak. His cover of the popular Kanye West hit is not as annoying, and more of a complete song. Here’s to hoping we don’t get a video for this song though.

  • What’s Your Name?

Who are you? Really. Ask yourself that. The first step to making a presence is knowing who you are. The one thing that should always be consistent throughout your brand, (yes, you are a brand), is your name. Occasional name changes aside, your name always be the same. But when upcoming rapper, let’s call him “Kid Magic”, releases new music and his YouTube account calls him “K.I.D. Magic”, song title calls him “KidMagic”, Twitter calls him “Kiidd Magic”, and so on and so forth, how are his fans supposed to connect to his brand?
